Compositions

The music portion of Kate Maxwell's joint-honours undergraduate degree (French and Music, awarded with honours of the first class, 2002) was primarily focused on composition. During these years, I worked on the varying rhythmic qualities of the human voice, particularly the musicality of language and speech, and the interaction between words and music.

Since beginning my PhD, I have become increasingly interested in the relationship between notation and performance. To this end, my most recent compositions are graphic in nature. 'Performing Notation, Notation Performing' has been published in Notations 21, ed. by Theresa Sauer (New York, Mark Batty, 2009, see www.notations21.net). 'The Tree is Known by its Fruit' (for solo organ) was premièred in Glasgow by Kevin Bowyer in 2009, and performed again by the same artist in 2010 (see www.kevinbowyer.net ). I am currently working on a piece entitled 'Tryptich'.
